Plage Gelée

Year 2019-2022

Location Gelée, Haiti

Client UTE-MEF (financed by IDB)

Urbanization in some countries is often accompanied by economic growth, higher productivity and better living standards. In the case of Haiti, and particularly in Gelée, the lack of planning remains one of the main bottlenecks to sustainable economic development in the region.

La Plage Gelée is a neglected natural space that is poorly used by the impoverished population that occupies the area without any kind of control. This project hopes that residents will take an active approach to understanding the need to protect coastal areas, so that they remain in their natural state, enhancing their attractiveness, while generating economic activity, wealth and orderly growth.

To this end, the area is organized, a zoning scheme is established, and key interventions are designed, including new kitchens, services, a boardwalk, and an organization of beach uses.

Despite all the interventions designed, none of these actions have yet been built.
