Arenal, Panama — WE Architects
The main objective of this intervention was to transform El Arenal Beach into an attractive place for tourists. Being the main access to Iguana Island and base for fishermen, the proposal integrates solutions for tourism to be an additional economic resource for the local population. The project aims to activate and improve the tourist and economic activity of the beach, preserving the environment and implementing the basic infrastructure necessary for it. The proposal rethinks the local architecture, using traditional materials and construction systems. This project combines the innovation of construction systems with regional materials and the conservation of vernacular typologies. Passive design strategies also influenced the final result of the intervention.
