Suriname Ministry of Health Campus in Paramaribo: Offices and Laboratories
The new complex for the Suriname Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Bureau of Public Health (BOG) brings together new infrastructure for administration and public health services on Rode Kruislaan in Paramaribo.
The project is part of the Health Services Improvement Project, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and addresses the need to modernize facilities and improve coordination among services that were previously dispersed. The development includes the new headquarters for the Ministry and the BOG, as well as a building for the National Immunization Program (NIP).
The Ministry’s headquarters features open-plan workspaces, twelve meeting rooms, a conference hall with a capacity for 150 people, a library, and dining areas. It also includes a daycare center and a nursing room, integrating staff well-being into the architectural program. The building further houses offices for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).
The complex is organized around two large, organically shaped, oval buildings that possess a strong, representative presence and feature facades designed for solar protection. The laboratories and other auxiliary buildings are distributed along the perimeter.
The design was developed with sustainability criteria, and the complex has achieved EDGE certification.
The site is surrounded by landscaped areas featuring depressions designed to retain rainwater, while the access roads utilize permeable pavement.
The complex was brought into service progressively: the NIP opened in November 2024, the Ministry in April 2025, and the BOG held its initial opening in November 2025. The formal handover of the two main buildings took place in February 2026.
