Camp Gerard, Haiti — WE Architects
As part of the restoration and improvement of five heritage monuments in the south of Haiti, the project aims to enhance Camp Gerard, the former home or plantation of settler Gerard with its slave quarters, as a cultural and tourist reference.
The monument has a strong symbolic value, as it was the meeting point of the Generals Geffrad and Dessalines, who gave birth to the Independence of Haiti. As such, the project uses symbolism to highlight the ruins of the Grand Casse and provide the complex with an interpretation project using local materials, Corten steel and the geography of the surroundings, highlighting elements such as the landscape and the environment.
